Arsenal make new offer of £62m plus bonuses for long-term target Mykhailo Mudryk following further talks – as the Gunners ramp up attempts to sign the 22-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk winger

  • Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of the highly rated winger Mykhailo Mudryk
  • Shakhtar Donetsk are determined to receive a substantial fee for their star man
  • The high-profile January target has been training with Shakhtar squad in Turkey
  • Mudryk has continued to drop huge hints on social media that he wants to move

Arsenal have made a revised offer for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhailo Mudryk following further talks on Thursday.

The Gunners’ last proposal was around £45m plus add-ons up to £62m for the 22-year-old.

But the restructured proposal is understood to be around £62m plus bonuses. The key for Shakhtar is that they wanted more up front than the last £45m offered – and while their ideal is £80m, they are expected to accept slightly less.

The high-profile January transfer target has been spotted deep in conversation with Shakhtar Donetsk chief Darijo Srna this week as talks escalate between the two clubs.

The 22-year-old Arsenal target has also drawn interest from Chelsea as talks drag on, despite the forward repeatedly making it clear that he would prefer a move to the Gunners on his social media accounts.

In fact, on Thursday Mudryk posted a bold picture on his Instagram story – showing him wearing an Arsenal shirt.

The post seemed to show the sought-after wonderkid mocked up in a Gunners shirt with someone holding a piece of paper with ‘Mykhailo Mudryk’ written on it, in an ‘Welcome to Arsenal’ video with a compilation of his skills.

Despite being five points clear at the top of the Premier League and having the second best goal tally, Arsenal have been keen on adding Mudryk to their forward unit.

The player is currently in Turkey with his club on a mid-winter training camp with the Ukrainian Premier Liga reaching the halfway point.

The north London side had made an initial bid of £52m, which was increased to £62m after it was swiftly rebutted, however they still lie over £20m short of Donetsk’s request.

After Monday night’s FA Cup victory over Oxford United, Arsenal boss Arteta reaffirmed their desire to bring in attacking reinforcements with Jesus unavailable.

‘The problem is that we have only one striker and to cope for that many months until Gabby is back is not easy,’ he said.

‘But we have to get the most out of the players that we have at the moment. If we can have some reinforcements, great.’
