Dupuytren’s disease [also called┬áDupuytren contracture] is a painless condition which sees one or more fingers bend in towards your palm.

It occurs when knots of scar tissue form in the palmar fascia, the thin layer of tissue that lies under the skin of the palm, making it tougher. These knots eventually link together to form a thick cord that pulls one or more fingers over towards the palm.

This can lead to ‘clawed’ fingers, making it difficult for people to carry out day-to-day activities, such as doing up buttons.

With no drugs to treat the disease and physiotherapy unable to release ‘clawed’ fingers, surgery – in which the knotted cords are removed under general anesthetic – is the main treatment.

Captioning his post, Ricky penned: ‘Had a great time away but can’t wait to get back in the gym with me boxers. Had a serious operation when I got Dupuytrens disease.

‘I’ve not been able to punch or do pads for about 3 months. At least my boxers all had finished there fights for the year before I had the operation.

‘Having said that it’s been a frustrating & worrying time for me as you can see from my first photo. The amount of work it is in such a small & complicated area in your hand & around your fingers. But ready to start back now which has been a relief. Baby steps though. [sic]’

The star also shared a picture of his heeled hand, with scarring from the operation still visible, as well as an explanation of his condition.

His post was met with a plethora of kind messages from his followers who wished him a speedy recovery.

It comes after Ricky showed off his bandaged hand last month as he attended the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Awards at MediaCityUK, Salford with girlfriend Angela Blemmings.

Ricky looked smart in a black blazer with a floral print which he paired with matching trousers, shirt and tie.

Angela looked stunning in a black velvet dress with an a-symmetric hemline that highlighted her toned pins.
